Roads and neighborhoods in Shanghai flooded on Friday as the Chinese megacity was battered by a second typhoon days after it was hit by its strongest storm in 75 years. Typhoon Pulasan made landfall Thursday night in the city's Fengxian district, with a maximum wind speed of 83 kph, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Pulasan was expected to make landfall near the Chinese financial hub by Friday morning. Forecasters warned of potential floods and landslides.

Notably, Pengzhen Water Station in Nicheng town, Pudong, recorded 308 millimeters of rainfall in six hours, while the Yangjiazhai Meteorological Observatory Station in Situan tallied 327.7 mm of rainfall during the same period, marking a historical deluge not witnessed since 1978, the Shanghai Meteorological Service said.

Typhoon Pulasan comes days after Typhoon Bebinca wreaked havoc as the strongest storm to hit Shanghai since 1949.
