KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has been named a finalist for the American League’s MVP award. Witt had an outstanding year in just his third season in the Majors, proving himself as one of the game’s best players.

Franchise cornerstone Bobby Witt Jr. and All-Star pitcher Seth Lugo won the 2024 American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award at their respective positions. The Royals standouts headlined a quartet of Royals finalists alongside teammates Freddy Fermin and Cole Ragans in October.

On top of the MVP-caliber season from Witt Jr. (no, he’s not going to win, Aaron Judge has that locked up), the Royals had one of the best pitching staffs in the AL. Cole Ragans showed that 2023 was no fluke while striking out 223 hitters in 186 2/3 innings with a strong 3.

Both Kansas City Royals stars have claimed some impressive hardware in recent days. Witt won the American League Gold Glove Award as a shortstop, while Perez, KC’s team captain who played catcher, first base and designated hitter this year, won the 2024 Roberto Clemente Award.
