Firefighters are slowly making progress in their battle against a wildfire at the border of New Jersey and New York.

The weather on Tuesday will make it much tougher for the crews continuing to battle the Jennings Creek Wildfire, which is eating up 3,500 acres of wooded land in the northern part of Passaic County that abuts the New York State border.

The Jennings Creek blaze, which has been impacting Passaic and Orange counties, is now 30% contained, fire officials said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says thousands of acres have been burned and local road closures are still in place.

As of Wednesday morning, the Jennings Creek fire has burned through over 4,300 acres of Sterling Forest, with 2,700 acres in New York, the DEC said.
