The married victims died in their car Wednesday; their killer was fatally shot by Harbor Police a mile north about 45 minutes later.

A San Diego Harbor Police officer was shot during a gun battle in Little Italy with a person suspected in a deadly shooting that occurred about an hour earlier in the downtown area.

The suspect connected to a shooting in Little Italy that left two others dead Wednesday has also died, authorities say.

San Diego police are investigating a double shooting near Little Italy and downtown that left two dead and an officer in the hospital. Officers said they received a call of a shooting at 8:42 a.m. in the area of Ash Street and Union Street.

With three dead, including the shooting suspect, and a Harbor Police officer hospitalized with a gunshot wound, San Diego’s homicide unit provided details of the department’s criminal investigation of the broad-daylight killings.
